This document describes the CLAES Level 3AL data set. This set of data are contained in twenty-three seperate files, each containing one of the retrieved species. These data are interpolated from a pre-level 3A data set on the CLAES altitude grid to a time position of 32,768 milliseconds into each EMAF. The data are then interpolated from the CLAES altitude grid to the standard UARS grid as defined in the document "UARS Central Data Handling Facility (CDHF) Software System (UCSS) Programmer's Guide to Production Software Support Services, 1993; Computer Science Corporation (CSC/SD-86/6704/UD7). For this data set, each species's data is further interpolated to the UARS standard latitude gird as defined in the document cited above. FileClassSyntax: The twenty-three Level 3AL files each consist of a col- lection of profiles of a retrieved species, or altitude, or temperature at given time (defined as the time associated with SMIF 0 of SMAF 32 of the EMAF at level 0). That is, each profile is interpolated to the middle of that EMAF in time. The data are then interpolated to the standard UARS pressure grid as described in the UARS UCSS User's Guide. There is one record in each file for every EMAF of a given UARS day. Hence, a level 3AL data file will contain no more than 1319 records. Files are identified by the filename containing instrument, species retrieved, level, version, cycle, and UARS day as described in the UARS UCSS Programmer's Guide. ClassFieldRelationships: Each record position for every level 3AL file maintains a one to one correspondence in profile with the items addressed by all the other entrants of the FileClassNames field. FileClassMisc: These data are created from interpolating from the CLAES 3AT data set for each species and EMAF.
